Inetnon Gef Pa'go Cultural Dance Group 2008 Europe Tour - June 22, 2008


Sharing the Chamorro culture with the world...the Inetnon Gef Pa'go Cultural Dance Group is currently in Europe to participate in the Salland Folklore Festival as well as the Op Roakeidais in Folkdance Festival. Both are being held in the Netherlands.





While abroad the group will be performing at homes for the elderly and schools. They also plan to join in a parade of dancers, gala shows and stage performances. Inetnon Gef Pa'go is also showcasing cultural cooking and weaving, talking about the Chamorro culture, and sharing traditional music and games. Membership in the group starts in the middle school, where students undergo extensive cultural arts and dance training. When they graduate from 8th grade, members move into a community-based program, Inetnon Gef Pa'go Cultural Dance Group.

Guam's own Inetnon Gef Pa'go Cultural Dance Group heads to Europe for the 32nd Salland Festival, International Folkkoristisch Festival Raalte in Raalte, Netherlands and the Op Roakeidais in Folkdance Festival in Warffum, Netherlands, and the group will also be in Putten, Netherlands. This years 2008 32nd Salland Festival groups consists of participants from Guam, Holland, Cuba, Austria, Russia/Chukotka, Belgium, Colombia, Mali and Bulgaria. The Inetnon Gef Pa'go Cultural Dance Group will also be performing and participating in the 2008 Op Roakeidais in Folkdance Festival in Warffum, Netherlands, June 25 to June 30, 2008. Participating dance groups are from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Georgia, Guam, Kazakhstan, Mali, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Scotland, South Africa, The Netherlands, and Venezuela.

The Inetnon Gef Pa'go Cultural Dance Group will be performing at homes for the elderly, schools, reception for the board of mayor and aldermen of the municipality, participating in a parade of dancers, gala shows, stage performances, etc. They also will be enhancing the Chamorro culture by teaching and demonstrating cultural dances, cultural cooking and weaving, talking about the Chamorro culture, music sharing, games, etc. The motto of the group is to show how proud they are of their own country. They do this through performing different sorts of dances. They will show us a dance that tells the story of the life in Guam and a dance that shows the Spanish influences between 1600-1900 and it will show how life was in Guam back then.

The Inetnon Gef Pa'go Cultural Dance Group ("beautiful gathering" in ancient Chamorro) is an award-winning cultural dance program whose mission is to promote awareness and pride in Chamorro heritage through youth interaction with traditional master artists, community presentations, and cultural exchange. Membership in the group starts in the middle school, where students undergo extensive cultural arts and dance training in order to be selected as part of the school's performing group, Inetnon Natibu. When they graduate from 8th grade, members move into a community-based group, Inetnon Gef Pa'go Cultural Dance Group.

The combined groups have performed at many community events, hotels, and other major tourism promotions for Guam throughout the island. In addition, the group has traveled and showcased Guam's culture in places such as Saipan, Tinian, Australia, New Zealand, Phillipines, Japan, Washington, Caliafornia, Hawai, Korea and now Europe.
