On the AG's "Deadbeat Parents List"

by Tony Blaz
KUAM's Political Insider
November 18, 2005

"Love Your Kids". That is the rallying cry for parents and children. The Attorney General's Office has launched a number of programs that concern thousands of our people.

A 60-day amnesty period allowing non-custodial parents to pay their child support arrears without paying interest. The AG's Office has launched is "Kids First" card program for the next 45 days. The program allows custodial parents to have a debit card, giving them access to a bank account containing child support payments. And of course the Office has referred the names of delinquent parents who haven't made payments for more than three months.

We all know about the so-called "Deadbeat Parents List"; the list has served as notice for those parents to come forward and make payments before court actions are brought
against them. We understand that there are a number of exceptions and they must be expedited as soon as possible, we need to cleanse its system when parents have hurt us.  We can talk about a number of parents who complain about your list, but for thousands of parents and children, we must be concerned about the island's foremost mission, our kids.

The Deadbeat Parents List owes in excess of $94,000,000 in child support, the number is un-imaginable, but will the number be for real? We've heard about parents who might love either there cars, SUVs, luxuries or material possessions, but children they know they see it, they know. Money, money, money they are motives for parents, lets not focus on just money alone, but what about love and genuine support? What of the compassion of our kids, why don't we recognize the needs of the children?

Stop blaming on the kids alone, stop being concerned about you only ask your kids. Their tears, their sorrow, their grief - it's been so long. Let's enjoy our children and prepare them for their future. I say walk in the light, walk in the promise of future opportunities and raising our children.

Provide the best of their children, all the best for our kids. Come on hug your kids, just love your kids!
