Ancestral lands issue too important to ignore

by Tony Blaz
KUAM's Political Insider
February 24, 2006

The ancestral land issue is as in Tiyan an important issue for the sake of our people and our island. Governor Felix Camacho on this issue is a win-win situation. The strong stand by Governor Camacho is legal and right.

The deed over the parcel of land was in excess to the U.S. Navy under the BRACC property disposal and was returned to GovGuam. Under the Organic Act of Guam, GovGuam can own or return to the original landowners. Former lieutenant governor Eddie Reyes first authored ancestral lands to our people and other senators who came together to approve this issue by our elected leaders. It is right and it is legal.

However, the lose-lose situation of federal bureaucrats major and minor ones have hurt our people and our island, GovGuam has asked for over $207 million for Compact-impact issues, but the federal bureaucrats have rejected on these issues. The $60.5 million that our governor and our leaders are requesting the White House are still objectionable for these bureaucrats. War reparations are still hurting our people.

We are an unincorporated territory and we are lacking the rights and responsibilities, as in the right to vote for president, lack of a vote for the United States Congress and we aren't given any input or cooperation for various issues that affect all of our lives on Guam. In fact, we are not allowed to sit on the "proverbial table". Taxation without representation is colonialism it is tyranny. From major to minor bureaucrats is a lose-lose situation which either they don't care about our people are obviously are unconcerned about I Tao'tao Tano.

We must fight against the oppression of bureaucrats on our island, every single act and love in service we do for one another is love for our people. We stand up for our rights is not just a political issue but rather we have constitutional rights. It is a human rights issue. We must be unanimous with our island and our people. Do not be deterred, by bureaucrats who are engaged in the so called "fear factor". You see, scare tactics, are for a few people for their brainwashing agendas. It is wrong, it is very hurtful. It's an agenda to wipe out our homeland.

We must be relentless for our people and our government, we must take a true stand for a win-win situation for our people.
