Dededo, GUAM –
Giving Tuesday this year is scheduled for December 1, but The KUAM CAREFORCE will kick off this global day of giving early with month long activities to inspire generosity, support those in need, and bring our community together with the spirit of inafa maolek.
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 1, 2020, and throughout the year.
For the past seven years, KUAM Communication’s community service initiative, The KUAM Careforce has participated in GivingTuesday as the annual launch of our Season of Giving campaign. Each year, team KUAM embarks on our day long “giving marathon” and past activities and have included visits to schools islandwide for toy and canned food drives for Catholic Social Services and The Salvation Army, coordination and caroling and of activities such as Bingo at our senior centers, care packages to cancer and dialysis centers, donations to pediatric ward of GMH, activities with youth through Manelu, Sanctuary, and so much more. In 2019, the KUAM Careforce was also appointed as global leader of the Giving Tuesday movement for Guam with Betty Ann Guerrero and Christie San Agustin named as co-ambassadors. Though the global pandemic has changed the way which we are able to participate in this global day of service, the need to give, show kindness and help our community is greater than ever. As part of our Giving Tuesday efforts, through the month of November, we’ll be delivering holiday meals to veterans in partnership with West Care Pacific and local restaurants as well as care packages to our front liners. On Giving Tuesday, December 1st, The KUAM Careforce is holding a Donation Drive Through at the KUAM Studios where donors can drop off donations of canned goods for the Salvation Army’s food bank and toys for our annual holiday toy drive.
KUAM Communications CEO/KUAM Careforce President Marie Calvo Monge is excited to once again participate in Giving Tuesday stating, “Despite all the challenges we face in our personal lives, the spirit of giving in our community really shines through especially on Giving Tuesday. We look forward to our entire community coming together to join us in participating in acts of selflessness, generosity and kindness at a time when the world needs it more than ever.”
Giving Tuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past eight years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets 21 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved.
"GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year." said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. "With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world."
