Anti-mold efforts dependent on DOE's cash

It's still a moldy situation at Southern High School.  So far, only 90% of the work at the Santa Rita campus has been completed.  Earlier this year, the students were removed from at least two classrooms as mold found inside posed a health hazard.

Cruz says clean up is just about completed, but the problem now is whether the Department of Education will have all the money it needs to maintain the rooms at the Home of the Dolphins, but also other school facilities.  "At this time I've yet to meet with the Business Office to find out how much money we have left and how much we have to work with for the school year," he said.

"And we should find out by this week how much money we'll have available for things like this, general maintenance stuff."

Cruz says with the bond money being taken away for other purposes, he says it's difficult since most of the projects have been put on hold.
