Sharks too tough at home for Cougars

by Dave Delgado

Guam - In girls high school softball, the Simon Sanchez Sharks used a big first-at-bat to pick up the win against the Academy of Our Lady of Guam Cougars at the Yigo Softball Field. Sanchez opened the flood gates after giving up a run in the top of the first inning behind good base running and solid sticks at the plate.

The Sharks never let up, advancing base runners on every hit to put themselves in scoring position throughout the lineup. Miscues by the Cougars on defense allowed the Sharks to score runs on dropped balls in the outfield.

After 5 innings of play, the Sharks earned the win by the 10-run mercy rule, 16-6, to improve to 4-2 on the year. The game's winning pitcher was Yvonne Acfalle, who almost hit for the cycle - hitting a single, double and triple but was short just in missing out on a homerun.
