Cruz, Aguon meet about GMH finances
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - The hospital's finances were the focus of discussions between Acting Governor Mike Cruz and health Committee Chair Senator Frank Aguon, Jr. Monday. The late GMH board chairman Dan Webb had approached Cruz last week, hoping to be able to work with the legislature to help meet some of the hospital's financial challenges.
Cruz's chief-of-staff, Carlotta Leon Guerrero, say the meetings focused on strategies to shrink the hospital's crippling accounts receivable. "What they're discussing is, what Chairman Webb came up to talk about is if they had a dedicated funding stream, a new funding stream that would allow them to go out and borrow. GMH has legal authority to borrow so this would allow them to pay down their payable list and get a handle on their finances," she said.
While no date has been set, Cruz and Aguon plan to meet again later in the week.
