Guam - It's a story about how one man's trash is another's treasure - and we should warn you - if you're hungry or maybe gave up meat for Lent (like I did), this story is definitely a teaser for your tastebuds!
If television could broadcast smell, then we'd be in trouble, because one Guam resident's concoction a one of kind. Bob Parker's built a barbeque pit completely from recycled materials. "It's a Texas barbeque pit," he explained. "We found the old tank out in the junkyard that Mike Timmons found for us. The old trailer was an old trailer we found laying around we took the trailer and made a Texas-sized barbeque pit."
Parker, who first came to Guam in 1985, says he first introduced a pit like this when he owned Wet Willy's in Tumon, but after selling the bar, he parted ways with it. And now with the help of some friends who not only found the tank and trailer and did the welding, he's fired up doing it big just like they do in the Lone Star State.
"We're making beer-back chicken - that's when you take chicken and take a can of beer it makes it really tender and moist we got ribs we got brisket spareribs and baby back ribs," he explained.
So is your mouth watering yet? Parker says he didn't build it to make money, instead saying of his pit, "Anyone can use it. We're not doing this commercially, we're a member of the Guam Contractors Association, we're going to let members of the Contractors Association use it anytime they want to after they get through anytime someone done with building a building and want to have a barbeque there more than welcome to use it."
