Guam - More than a week after the ribbon cutting ceremony, the new Dededo Pool is still closed to the public. But it's not because of a lack of staff or safety permits.

According to Department of Parks & Recreation administrator Joe Mendiola, safety concerns have been raised because the paint applied to the deck circling the entire pool, becomes extremely slippery when wet.  "I think the contractor was trying to do their best and make it presentable to the public, but I think they didn't realize that when people started to walk and they were wet and they were dripping all over that it created a safety problem," he said.

The contractor, Orion Construction Corporation, will be applying a non-skid material to remove the hazard. The additional work will be at no cost to the Government of Guam and the pool is tentatively scheduled to reopen next Friday.
