Calvo focuses on education
Guam - Education was the primary focus of Governor Eddie Calvo's weekly address to the people of Guam. The governor said it's a coincidence that $287 million if owed for tax refunds, it's the same amount the Department of Education is asking for its budget for the next fiscal year.
Calvo said the problems with education have to do with the cruel cycle of poverty in Guam, adding that at some point in our government, education funding took a back seat to other priorities. The governor said he would be working with Superintendent Dr. Nerissa Underwood and other education leaders on a strategic blueprint for economic development.
