Bill gives DMV inspectors citation authority
by Nick Delgado
Guam - Senator Tom Ada introduced legislation that would give the Department of Motor Vehicles the authority to issue citations to commercial and military vehicles that are found to be an endangerment to others on Guam's roadways. Bill 61 will affect the operations of about 6,000 civilian vehicles weighing just more than 10,000 pounds as well as over 800 vans, mini-buses and limousines intended to transport up to 15 passengers at a time.
Ada states, "The Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program Unit currently only has authority to inspect commercial motor vehicles at roadside locations, but must call the Guam Police Department to issue citations to operators found to be in violation of motor carrier safety rules."
The bill would also give the inspectors authorization to pullover vehicles.
