A community protest against deep sea mining will take place at the Governor’s Complex this Thursday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The call to action is organized by local activist group Prutehi Guahan.
It comes as officials with the Bureau of Ocean and Energy Management will be in the Marianas to meet with elected officials this week.
The protest coincides with BOEM’s meeting with Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, which was rescheduled to this Thursday, 3pm at Adelup.
The group notes no public or community meetings have been scheduled despite the planned visit.
Prutehi Guahan says they are inviting residents to be there when BOEM representatives arrive to send them a clear message: no deep sea mining in the Marianas.
Participants are advised to carpool and prepare for sun and rain.
