Bill 376 seeks to establish new gov't vehicle policy
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - It's been over 30 years since the government enacted a vehicle policy. Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz's Bill 376 seeks to change this by establishing a new government vehicle policy that would standardize vehicle fleet purchases for all government agencies and mandate five-year maintenance contracts for all new cars.
The legislation would require GovGuam agencies to comply with a preventative maintenance program or lose the vehicles and government-wide vehicle inventory responsibilities would no longer be with Public Works, but be transferred to the General Services Agency.
The vice speaker says the measure would eliminate inefficiencies and government waste that he believes would result in considerable cost savings.
