Judge denies man's motion to vacate sentence
by Mindy Aguon
Guam - District Court Chief Judge Frances Tydingco Gatewood denied a Balinese man's request to vacate his sentence of 54 months behind bars. Natarajan Gurumoorthy was sentenced in 2009 after he pleaded guilty to using multiple counterfeit credit cards with stolen accounts originating from several banks in the United Kingdom.
Gurumoorthy claimed his attorney was ineffective because he thought he would receive less time behind bars. He also claimed the government breached the plea agreement by seeking more jail time. Judge Tydingco Gatewood found Gurumoorthy's arguments were without merit and that he failed to show evidence of his rights being denied.
