Guam - The federal government is going after those who are pocketing housing allowance by submitting bogus lease agreements. A federal indictment was handed down against Reginald Diaz, who is charged with theft of government service and false statement to a federal government agency.
According to court documents, Diaz stole more than $16,000 from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, claiming he was paying $1,800 rent to his mother to occupy his Dededo residence. The indictment alleges he was living there rent-free and keeping the housing allowance.
An arraignment is scheduled for February 3.
