Another Colorado fugitive caught
Guam - The U.S. Marshals service and local law enforcement officials are two-for-two, picking up another fugitive. Deputy U.S. Marshal David Punzalan said, "We got information that subject Michael David Montgomery was located in Guam and with that information the Guam Fugitive Task Force and the Guam Sex Offender Section pulled their resources together and went out looking for him and they found him."
Mmontgomery has been on the run since 2010 when a felony warrant of arrest was issued in Colorado for failing to register as a sex offender, he was picked up in Guam Saturday at a hotel in Barrigada. This is the second fugitive from Colorado to flee to the territory. "It's all coincidental, there's nothing to show that these folks know each other they just ended up here in Guam," said Punzalan.
Jim Richard Hockett was listed as the second most wanted fugitive in Colorado. He had been on the run since 2009 wanted on multiple child sexual assault charges. He is currently on house arrest as we awaits extradition. The U.S. Marshals say there is no connection the Colorado fugitives but do say its proof of a law enforcement system that works.
U.S. Marshal for Guam and the CNMI frank Leon Guerrero said, "I think it goes back to all the things we're working hard with the Criminal Justice Information System, the databases that we have we're reaching further out and tracking these people now it is a coincidence that these two people are from Colorado but its not to say there are not other fugitives here on the island , fugitives will go to the extreme go to other places Guam included."
Montgomery meanwhile appeared before District Court Magistrate Judge Joaquin Manibusan today where he was given an attorney from the federal Public Defender's Office. He was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and a preliminary hearing is set for June 25.
