Guam Theatre Company heads to Alaska
Breaking Wave Theatre Company from Guåhan is taking CHamoru storytelling to a national stage. The nonprofit theatre group will travel to Anchorage, Alaska from March 26 to april 13 to present its original production “We Will Not Go Silent” during a residency hosted by Perseverance Theatre in partnership with the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Performances are scheduled for April 2–4 and April 9–11 at 7:30 p.m. at the UAA Fine Arts Mainstage Theatre. The shows are pay-as-you-can, making them accessible to the community.
Blending theatre, puppetry, music, poetry, and movement, the production explores the connection between land, water, air, and community while highlighting CHamoru storytelling and indigenous perspectives on climate and cultural memory.
The tour is supported through the National Theatre Project Creation and Touring Grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts — the first time a theatre company from Guam has received the national award.
During their time in Alaska, the company will also host workshops and community conversations, inviting members of the Guåhan and Pacific islander diaspora in anchorage to connect with the artists.
The production first premiered locally in november 2024 and toured across Guam in 2025, sparking conversations about climate, culture, and community through performance.
