The Guam Department of Labor is ramping up enforcement of workplace discrimination and fair hiring laws following dozens of violations uncovered during recent inspections.

Officials say the Fair Employment Practice Division is now in “full enforcement mode,” with a focus on ensuring employers comply with laws like the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, Equal Employment Opportunity provisions, and other labor protections.

In January alone, inspectors found 122 violations — the majority tied to missing or improper postings of required labor law notices.

Employers are reminded they must display these notices in clear, visible areas for workers and applicants. DOL says compliance for the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act must be met by May 28.

The department is also encouraging businesses to review their policies now and seek guidance to avoid penalties as enforcement intensifies.
