Guam - After three years of struggling to identify a school site, the Guahan Academy Charter School announced last Friday they'll be opening doors at the CoreTech facility in Tiyan just in time for the start of next school year. Charter school director Donna Dwiggins says they've acquired two buildings at approximately 22,000 square feet just off of Guam Police Department's headquarters.

The facility was recently renovated and can accommodate the 500 students anticipated to attend the school grades kinder through 12th. "Weren't a lot of spaces available and even over the last three years we looked at a lot spaces but we have to be careful because of the types of zonings that are required to have a school and so that's eliminated some of the possibilities that were even out there that we thought might be viable possibilities," she said.

We should note that GACS will be occupying two buildings not part of GovGuam's lease of the Tiyan facility currently housing Untalan Middle School students and staff. GACS spokesperson Therese Arroyo Matanane says the lease is over $60,000 monthly to be funded through Department of Education reserve funding.
