The Office of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense is highlighting strong coordination efforts after two unexploded ordnance incidents last week.

On April 2, authorities responded to a reported mortar round in Yona along Route 17 near Windmill Farm. Local and federal partners, including GPD, GFD, and Joint Region Marianas worked together to secure the area.

An explosive ordnance disposal team declaring an all clear just after 1 p.m. and no evacuations or road closures were required.

Later that same day, a second incident was reported at Rizal Beach in Agat, where a possible mortar shell was discovered. Responders again secured the scene and with military support, the area was cleared by 6:17 p.m.

Officials say both incidents showcase the island’s ability to respond quickly and safely through strong partnerships.

Homeland Security is also reminding the public to follow the three R’s of explosive safety: Recognize, Retreat, and Report, and to call 911 if any suspicious item is found.
