The Guam Power Authority is urging residents to prepare now as high winds and potential outages threaten the island.

Officials warn loose outdoor items, tree branches, and debris can quickly become dangerous in storm conditions, so secure property and clear gutters ahead of time.

If evacuation becomes necessary, GPA advises shutting off electricity at your main breaker before leaving home. Residents are also reminded to unplug sensitive electronics and use surge protectors to prevent damage during power fluctuations.

For those using generators, safety is critical, never operate them indoors and keep them away from doors and windows to avoid carbon monoxide exposure. only use proper extension cords, avoid overloading, and never “back feed” power into your home.

GPA says taking these precautions now can help protect lives, property, and essential services as conditions change.
