Guam - While base operations such as the commissary, and DoDEA schools will not be affected by the U.S. Government shutdown, the federal government has begun to take steps to begin furloughing personnel under the Joint Region Marianas stationed at the Andersen Air Force Base and Naval Base Guam.

According to JRM spokesperson Colleen Perez, 100 civilian personnel are to be furloughed while 300 expected will not be furloughed and all active duty personnel will remain on normal duty status. She adds that 170 non essential Air Force civilians have been furloughed and 200 are expected and will not be furloughed.

The 200 are classified as excepted civilian personnel with positions which are essential to the protection of life and property and national security.
