Guam - Just in time for Chamorro Month, Acting Governor Ray Tenorio signed an executive order reinstating a holiday to commemorate the island's culture.  Senators Tommy Morrison and Chris Duenas had introduced legislation requesting the first Monday in March to be reinstated as the Discovery Day holiday. The Legislature however never scheduled a public hearing on the bill. 

Today's executive order is in line with the legislation. Senator Morrison said, "It is our hope that added attention given to our history and culture can influence more discussion of our identify more writing about our story more painting sculpting and weaving about our customs more research into the lives of our ancestors and more pride in our potential as  a people."

The Discovery Day holiday was eliminated several years ago because of fiscal constraints.
