The White House last week announced its intent to nominate former Guam resident Yuri Kim as the U.S. ambassador to Albania.

The White House says the post is a key position in the Trump administration.

Kim brings over 20 years of experience having served as the director of Southern European Affairs at the State Department. She also served as a political counselor at the U.S. embassy in Iraq and Turkey.

Kim was involved in the six-party talks to denuclearize North Korea.

She attended the University of Pennsylvania and received her masters from Cambridge University. She is an alumna of Academy of Our lady of Guam, where she provides a scholarship in the name of her late mother who passed away in the Korean Air Flight crash in 1997.
