Guam's 100% Medicaid funding assistance expires next week when the current fiscal year ends. That's why Governor Lou Leon Guerrero is adding her support to a bill now under consideration in the Senate. She's urging Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to help pass a continuing Appropriations Act to keep the federal government running.

That would also extend the millions of dollars in Medicaid funding for Guam through the end of November. Adelup says without the Medicaid assistance percentage Guam would've been required to provide 45% in matching funds.

The governor has also joined with other territorial chief executives in seeking more equitable treatment in the calculation of Medicaid assistance percentages going forward.

They want the formula to be based on per capita income, and are also seeking to lift the funding cap just like the state governments.
