Three candidates have turned in their paperwork for the Yona mayor special election.

Guam Election Commission Director Maria Pangelinan told KUAM Democrats Cedric Diaz and Bill Quenga and Republican Kiko Hiton have all filed to run in the March 28 special. The deadline to file for the election is Thursday at 5 p.m. and official ratification of mayoral candidates will take place at the GEC board meeting on Friday night.

Ratified candidates draw for ballot placement on Friday. The special election will fill the void left by former Mayor Jesse Blas, who resigned after being jailed for months on extortion and bribery charges.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on special election day and ballot counting should be done by 11 p.m. The GEC must allow a 10- day window for absentee ballots to come in before certification of results.
