Doug Palmer, athletic director for the University of Guam, spoke with KUAM Sports about the future of athletics at the Home of the Tritons in the immediate future. "Pretty much we just tell them to stay in contact with the universities website. The information that's there and the public information that is from the actual offices of Gov Guam and just don't follow the rumors and stuff that are out there. Go to the official sites and try to use the universities website as much as possible," he said about his communication with student/athletes.

All University of Guam varsity and club sports will be suspended until the fall semester. Guam and the university's move to online-only classes for the remainder of the semester were announced March 19th through a press release.

Palmer added, "The kids get to keep their scholarships. Actually if they haven't used all of their money yet, I've told them to give me any other names that you have that we can give a scholarship to for this past semester. What we were able to play because the money that we do get for scholarships we don't get to keep it for the next year, we have to get rid of it or it's swept. So we are going to try and spend every dollar that we have to the students. So hopefully a few of the students will be getting some $500.00 type checks sometime soon to help them at the end of the semester."

The Triton Women's Basketball Team will return to play on Sept. 8 The Trident Women's Club Volleyball Team is scheduled to start Oct. 6. The Triton Men's Basketball Team will return to play on Oct. 27. Men's and women's soccer will return for play in the fall in Guam Football Association leagues yet to be determined. Along with the newly reinstated men's baseball team is also a possibility for fall pending player recruitment.

Palmer/UOG Athletic Director: I've told the coaches to continue to recruit as best as they can, mostly by of course telephone and social media and email. Contact the high schools and try and get numbers and things because we no longer have games to go see them play. And we are not sure when we'll be able to have tryouts and we may not be able to tryouts until the fall so we need to try and recruit as best we can and most of the coaches pretty much have been to a basketball or soccer match on the island so they know the students that are recruitable. So we will start trying to recruit them and hopefully get some recruiting classes.
