A special COVID-19 Pig Hunting Derby is set for May 30 and 31, providing food for families in need and reducing the nuisance feral pig population.

The Department of Agriculture also announced the sale of hunting licenses have resumed starting today although you will be able to get a special free hunting license for the derby if you don't already have one.

Those interested in accepting a pig should contact their mayor's office.

Derby Registration forms are distributed through social media and the DOAG website. Safety briefings, as well as registration for those without digital access, will be held Friday May 22 and Friday May 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. at DOAG in Mangilao. The safety briefings will
also be held on the days of the derby. On the days of the hunts, the Derby Check-Out/In station will be open from 4:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Everyone must bring a valid picture ID. A Firearms ID is required if you are hunting with a firearm. Minors need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Please provide identification proof at the time of registration. Masks and social distancing will be
enforced at registration, safety briefings, and at the check station.

The 2020 Covid-19 Pig Hunting Derby is funded under the Guam Hunter Education Program, through a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Wildlife and Sportfish Restoration Grant Program. Hard copies of completed registration packets may be dropped off to DOAG in the two-story David Limtiaco building.

Regular hunting licenses can be purchased for $15 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday at the same building in Mangilao. All license applicants must provide valid identification and hunters using firearms must have a valid firearms ID.  Forms of valid identification are Military ID, Guam ID, Driver’s License, and Firearms ID.

In April, the Department of Agriculture’s Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources extended the current deer hunting season from April 1 to Sept. 30, 2020 with no additional costs to licensed hunters.  However, due to social restrictions at that time, those who did not have a hunting license were unable to purchase one until today.

Hunting is permitted on Government of Guam properties as well as private property, with the landowner’s written permission.

Hunters will not be required to use deer tags. The regulation will be suspended for this season in order to ease the financial obligation of paying for tags.

When visiting the department, all social distancing measures must be followed, which includes wearing masks and maintaining six feet of distance between themselves and others. For more information regarding license sales, email DAWR Wildlife at [email protected] or call 300-7965, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.  You may also visit doag.guam.gov for hunting regulations.
