With President Biden expected to sign the latest federal relief package, Department of Revenue & Taxation Director Dafne Shimizu told KUAM her department is already looking at paying out the next round of EIP stimulus checks.
Shimizu on the Link this morning detailed her discussions with her IRS counterparts relative to the latest round of stimulus checks - which will be $1,400 each for eligible recipients and their dependents. Shimizu said there will be a positive change when it comes to which of your dependents will be eligible.
"The versions we've been looking at it looks like dependents will be covered as long as they're eligible dependents whether they're adult dependents or child dependents so I know that is good news," she said. "The thresholds I know may be a little bit different where we before saw the phaseout happen for EIP in the first round it was right before $100,000 for joint filers it was $200,000. For EIP2 for single filers it was right around 82,000 I think we're seeing lower phaseouts in this particular phaseout just again we still have to review and understand it. It looks like it based primarily on 2019 returns so we will look at 2019 but if you have a validly filed and processed 2020 then we will end up using 2020."
According to Shimizu, the fed relief measure will also include funds to cover the "administrative costs" DRT incurs for standing up EIP 3 payment programs.
