QR codes you keep on your phone coming next week as second vaccine verification
A QR code is being developed to be used as a second form of verification for the COVID-19 vaccine, Dr. Hoa Nguyen representing American Medical Center said on the Link Wednesday.
Nguyen said that there will be no need for residents to request for a second form of verification from Public Health when you have the CDC verification card and the QR code on your mobile device.
All you have to do is submit an application, picture ID with a selfie (to verify it's you) and your CDC card then it will lead you to a federal website. After the application is completed and verified, about 48 to 72 hours your QR code with your picture will be sent to your SMS or WhatsApp.
"The bottom line is we're trying to make it convenient for the people of Guam and also people off-island," he said. "It's not just Guam. So the QR code what the process does is it's not an app it's a web base called the QR code. So wherever you go it's going to be on your phone so you will never lose it unless you lose your phone. And wherever you go and someone can check their cameras, scan the QR code like you are at the restaurant and it will put you up to a page where you are verified that you have your vaccinations already. You can either tell if you have the first dose, second dose or if you have J&J or you have it completed. And it can tell where you get the vaccination from."
In addition to the QR code being your second form of verification, it will also remind you a month prior to your COVID vaccine expiration date to schedule an appointment to get your booster shot.
The doctor added that the Department of Public Health and Social Services should recognize the code because it is coming from a federal website.
The target launch date is estimated for next week Tuesday, June 15 or Wednesday, June 16.
