The House of Chamorros based in San Diego has reached its milestone today to build a cottage at Balboa Park in San Diego. Thanks to a generous donation by GTA, the project can now be completed. Shin Taira is founding member from the group.


"It started as a fundraising effort at Balboa Park and then we realized the opportunity because there's so many, well San Diego is such a diverse culture and at Balboa Park there's about 15 million annual visitors per year," Taira said. "We realized that it was a perfect opportunity for us to have a Chamorro representation there."


Now the people of Guam have a cultural representation that is meant for them outside our island. House of Chamorros former vice-president, Sandy Flores.


"It's really an extension of our island is what we'd like it to be," she said. "It's really a chance for our island to shine."

GTA's Community Relations Manager Michele Catahay Perez spoke on behalf of the company and expressed excitement about the completion of the project.

"So culture and traditions and being a company that's truly local, it really means a lot to us as a compan," she said. So being able to support organizations like the House of Chamorros who are really trying to emphasize culture, our Chamorro culture in San Diego, it's really important for us to be able to support this cause."
