Sailor killed in Afghanistan posthumously promoted

A U.S. Navy sailor who was killed during the Afghanistan evacuation, and formerly served in Guam, was posthumously promoted to the rank of Hospital Corpsman third class.
According to a Navy news release, Ohio native Max Soviak was also awarded the Purple Heart and Fleet Marine Force Corpsman warfare badge, as a result of his brave actions in support of fellow service members.
He was among a group of service members killed Aug. 26 by a suicide bomber while protecting the Kabul airport.
Soviak was stationed in Guam two years ago, and was active in sports.
He is remembered by many, especially in the Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts community.
