Shelton: strategic alliances key to ensuring Guam's sustainable future
On Wednesday's G3 Steering Committee meeting, director for the University of Guam's Center for Island Sustainability Dr. Austin Shelton, shared updates on the Guam Green Growth's projects to make the island more sustainable.
"One thing that we are currently working on is a continued partnership with our friends over at the Serve Guam Commission. We are working with the next AmeriCorps group, VetCorps, over in Talofofo and it is our goal to open another G3 community garden in time for Martin Luther King day which is a big day of service in AmeriCorps community and so we hope to have that go on, I believe, January 17," he shared.
Kate Brown of the Global Island Partnership spoke on what occurred at the Conference of Parties 26 in Glasgow, Scotland, that's great for the island.
"I think what's really important for Guam is that Guam, he referenced Guam, along with Hawaii and Puerto Rico on this idea that U.S. islands have things to share with the world, particularly in pursuing sustainable development," she noted.
Dr. Shelton added that the G3 Steering Committee is proud to be a founding member of the Local 2030 Islands Network and how Guam continues to lead in island sustainability.
