The health concerns that come with aging can take a toll. That's why it's important to have yearly check ins with your doctor, and plan for the future. A free clinic will be taking place this weekend in northern Guam, dedicated to serving our island's elders.

Good health is good wealth.

This weekend, the island's senior citizens will have an opportunity to get their health checked at no cost! The Todu Foundation along with the Guam/Micronesia Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program under the University Of Guam School Of Health will be hosting a medical outreach clinic on Saturday from 8am to noon at our the Lady of Lourdes Church's social hall in Yigo.

Dr. Delores Lee told KUAM News, "We wanted to be able to offer blood sugar screenings, as well as blood pressure screening. Additionally, we also have myself, as well as a couple of other practitioners, who are going to be doing physical exams for seniors."

The outreach will also include information on healthy aging and dementia, as well as activities to help maintain mobility. "Additionally, we have some community partners who are going to be joining us. We have the Division of Senior Citizens from Guam Public Health and Social Services," continued Dr. Lee.

"We have the Guam Marianas Lions Club, who are going to be helping with vision exams as well as giving out glasses as long as we have supplies and."

The Elder Justice Center under the Public Defender's Office will also be there to raise awareness and knowledge toward advanced care planning. "I think that the COVID-19 pandemic has really brought forward just how important this is. Many families were not able to have the opportunity to speak with their loved ones about what they would want. Many patients had to receive very advanced care in terms of ICU level care you know ventilation and other support," said the physician.

Again, the clinic will be on Saturday from 8am-12pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Social Hall in Yigo.
