FD, Notre Dame have strong outings in wrestling

In high school wrestling from the ISA League, FD hosted Sanchez. Laralei Gandaoli taking on Anita Manglona in the 134-pound division. Gandaoli with the takedown for the 2-0 lead. Anita Manglona secured 2-points and 1 off an escape to lead 3-2 in the second period. Gandaoli led 6-5 holding on to position as time expired in the period. Anita scored off another escape to tie the match at 6 in the beginning of the 3rd. Gandaoli went on to score 3 more points to take the match via points 9-6.

Teammate Nissi Lujan was also victorious in her 143-pound match against Elyssa Gonzalez. After a slow start, Lujan was able to get the single leg take down and drive Gonzalez onto the mat. Nissi kept the pressure on Elyssa working her way into side control. After working position she didn't let up securing a hold of her shoulder. Lujan took the win via pin in the first round.

FD's Coleman Pool had a dominant performance against Sanchez wrestler Jrake Rodriguez at a 184-pounds. Rodriguez attempted a throw but Pool was able to counter the move. Coleman led from the start of the match getting the takedown and scoring points off a near pin. With the lead in the final period Pool was able to cruise to the 9-1 victory.

Sanchez wrestler Caleb Santiago evened the score in the 116-pound weight class. Santiago was all over Kyler Gambala building a 5-0 lead heading into the second period. Caleb Santiago won via pin in the second round.

Friars Logan Rosario and Sharks Thomas Santiago took to the mats next in the 124-pound weight class. Rosario's takedown gave him the advantage after the first 2:00 into the match. Santiago managed to score a point off an escape. Both wrestlers scored 2 more points in the second period, Rosario ahead 4-3. With the match on the line Rosario was able to score a point off an escape and pull off the win 6-5 against Santiago.

Sharks 131-pound wrestler Melvin Ancieto put in a great performance against Friars wrestler Aiden Garrido. Ancieto controlled most of the match picking up points in bunches. The Simon Sanchez competitor built a comfortable 11-6 lead heading into the last period. Melvin secured 3 more points before time expired to walk away with the 14-6 win.

After all of the points were tallied it was the ND girls winning the match 30-9 while FD's Boys got the win over Sanchez 49-10.
