Sage and Luck Cruz stayed busy this summer representing Guam in off island competitions. The boys competed in the IBJJF American Nationals, SJJIF Worlds, IBJJF Pan Kids Championship and the Jiu-Jitsu World League. Sage and Luck currently train under Professor Mike Carbullido at ATOS Jiu-Jitsu Guam.

Sage told KUAM Sports, "I really like competing off-island because I get to see my skill against other people in the states. The competition is really tough and there are really hard people out in the states when I go against them. Some of the fighting styles I went against, they did most of the the things the same as me. They would get takedowns and just pass the guard and submit."

Mike Carbullido, an ATOS Professor, added, "They have the tools and they have the work ethic. They have the full support of their parents and the gym. Their family and their friends they also have fans too. They all support them and I think it fuels their fire even more. Especially me as an instructor I value that. I appreciate that right because I see how much it matters. It matters to the kids and it matters in Jiu-Jitsu and on the mat and believing in them. You got to believe in them and it’s awesome."

Luck said, "It’s very fun and it’s like we’re all family. I love it because you get to feel how hard they are and you just keep going at it. To be on the mat and if it’s hard you have to keep going. You want to have good manners because if you don’t they’re not going to have good matters back . You don’t be a bad sport, next time you just go harder."

Professor Carbullido said, "I’m going to do my best to continue to grow the sport. When you see the future of the sport like the bros that’s amazing. I can imagine the future and I’m excited for it."
