It is officially hunting season on the island of Rota. The Department of Lands and Natural Resources resident Director David Calvo says in a public notice that the open season for sambar deer, which is limited to one male, is from September 1 to November 30.
Open season for coconut crab hunting is September 15 to November 15, limited to 10 total and 5 per bag.
Licenses for both types of hunting are $10 each. You also must have a valid firearm ID if you're hunting sambar deer and be at least 16 years old if you’re catching coconut crab.
Legal hunting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset.
