GUMA 'I Bisinun Mami' home-based business training in Barrigada this month
Guam Unique Merchandise and Art, known as GUMA, will hold its final sessions of its “I Bisinun Mami" home-based business training program for the year in Barrigada this month and the villages of Tamuning-Tumon-Harmon in October.
The village training program is designed to assist individuals looking to start their own home-based business or enhance an existing business operated from their home.
Funded by a grant from the Administration for Native Americans and the Guam Economic Development Authority, the mission of the program is to “Create community commerce and
networking through the development of Guam-centric cottage industries within Guam’s 19
villages.”
Mayor June U. Blas and Vice Mayor Jessie P. Bautista will host the two-session training program in Barrigada on Sept. 17 and 24 at the GCA Trades
Academy in rooms B201 and B202.
Mayor Louise C. Rivera and Vice Mayor Albert M. Toves of Tamuning-Tumon-Harmon will host the two-session session training on
Oct. 15 and 22 at the Tamuning Community Center.
Seating is limited and interested individuals are urged to contact their mayor’s office or GUMA at 671 646 3448 to register.
In partnership with the Mayor’s Council of Guam, GUMA will be providing free home-based
business mentoring, training, and incubation through public and private partnerships.
The nonprofit organization will also be working with the mayors to develop village directories of
Businesses in each municipality and will assist in hosting village trade fairs.
Since 2013 GUMA has provided entrepreneurial training mentoring to over 220 artists,
cultural producers, and entrepreneurs and has incubated 32 local businesses. The program is
free to all participants and is paid for through local and federal grants and the generosity of
GUMA donors. A second round of home-based training is planned for 2023 and will be
conducted regionally.
