DEA breaks down impacts of drug use in the workplace

Substance abuse in the workplace is often overlooked as those struggling still manage to hold down a job. Drug Enforcement Agency resident agent in charge Ken Bowman shared how employers can recognize the signs.
He told KUAM News, "You have physiological characters that go along with it such as with Meth, increased energy, dilated pupils, teeth start to turn black, hair loss. Some of them pick at their skin so you see scabs and stuff. It’s really sometimes difficult though, I’m sure you’ve heard the term functioning alcoholic that's someone you don’t even know is an alcoholic cause they’re hiding it."
Bowman shared that substance abuse on Guam is usually meth. Employers can help by first identifying the problem and then encouraging employees to seek help.
