Grinch steals family's inflatable Christmas display

For four years, the McDermott family has called a Mangilao neighborhood home. The family has been decorating for the holidays.

Last Saturday morning, after the overnight blackout, Shasta McDermott noticed something in her front yard wasn’t right.

"The inflatables that we had bought; my kids actually picked them out so each one was their own special one and all three of them are taken," she said. "So it was pretty devastating when they woke up and were like ‘our Christmas decorations that we chose.’"

Her children are ages 5, 3, and 11 months.

"One was about a six-footer and the other two were three and four foot," she said of the missing inflatables.

All that’s left – boxes of Bumble the Snow Monster, the gingerbread man, and a minion.

Thieves took off with all three but left behind this grinch inflatable.

"So there is irony in all of this," McDermott said. "My daughter actually tried to spin it,"  She said ‘so the Grinch is here.’ She was like ‘it’s OK, he’ll bring them back.’"

What the thieves wanted the decorations for is anyone’s guess.

"I hope they get joy out of it like we did for the few little days we had it," Shasta McDermott said.

The incident was reported to the mayor’s office and she will be notifying the Guam Police Department.

Still, she said she is not letting what happened here ruin the season with her loved ones.

"Just to be mindful and even though there are Grinches out there just to keep on with the holiday spirit because it’s mostly about family," McDermott said.
