Francis Chaoy Buchun is found guilty in a Yap State Court today for the 2019 killing of Yap's acting attorney general, Rachelle Bergeron.

Chief Justice Cyprian Manmaw announcing his findings during a virtual hearing – Buchun never showed him face.

"The court finds the defendant guilty of the charges: conspiracy, murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, mayhem, threats, criminal coercion, malicious mischief, threats to influence official matters, retaliation for past official conduct, obstruction of justice, duty to report wounds or death, and possession of firearms and use of firearms," he said.

Investigators say the pair used a 12-gauge shotgun to shoot and killed

and her dog in front of her home after she had gone for a run.

But other court cases against Buchun give an idea of the motive for the murder.

The cases also unfolded in 2019 that charged him with sexual abuse, sexual assault of a minor he knows, and illegal weapons possession. Documents show the prosecutor on each case was Bergeron.

Defendant Buchun will be sentenced on Feb. 10.

Co-defendant Anthony Tun Teteeth, who has since been convicted for his part in the killing, will be sentenced on Feb. 3.

Both will also appear before the FSM Supreme Court next month.
