The Guam Racing Federation announced an indefinite suspension of activities at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The federation received a 30-day eviction notice from the CHamoru Land Trust Commission, according to their press release. They have until March 2, 2023 to turn in their keys.

Raceway General Manager Henry Simpson told KUAM News, the Chamoru Land Trust Commission did not give the racing federation a reason why they are being evicted. However, they are working with legal representatives to appeal the eviction in court.

The press release stated various organizations and events will be affected by the closure, including 25 scheduled events utilizing the park.

“The last two and a half decades the Raceway has been home to the island's fastest vehicles. With nowhere to go, we fear public streets will once again see large-scale illegal racing and we hope this does not happen,” the press release state.

In the meantime, Simpson encourages the community to help sign a petition to save the raceway. A petition will be available at the remaining scheduled races starting tonight at Yigo. It will also be available at Cars Plus in Maite.

He says the goal is 10,000 signatures to show the Legislature that the raceway is important to the island.
