Steven Cruz, 34, accused of beating sleeping man over the head with a flashlight

Thirty-four-year-old Steven Frankie Fernandez Cruz was arrested and charged with Terrorizing with the special allegation of Deadly Weapon Used in a Felony, Strangulation, Aggravated Assault and Assault, all as third-degree felonies as well as Assault as a misdemeanor. 

According to a magistrate's complaint, on Feb. 14, Cruz allegedly entered a broken bus in Yigo where the victim was sleeping. He allegedly used a heavy flashlight to hit the victim over the head several times, leaving lacerations and bleeding.  

Cruz also allegedly choked the victim.

In an interview with police, Cruz said he didn't have a weapon and that the victim swung first, according to court documents.
