The CNMI’s chief of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles Juana Leon Guerrero is on administrative leave and could face up to 15 years in prison after a federal grand jury indicted her last Thursday for a conspiracy to illegally produce an identification document.

Leon Guerrero pleaded not guilty, appearing before magistrate judge Heather Kennedy, in the District Court of the CNMI Monday. U.S. Attorneys' requested that she turn in her passport, which she agreed to.

A status conference is set for April 13 to discuss her legal representation. The judge set the jury trial for May 23.

Leon Guerrero's co-defendant Yongde Li is to appear in court for the first time on March 27.
