CLTC doesn't support transfer of Guam Raceway Park to Parks & Rec
The CHamoru Land Trust Commission's executive director is opposing a bill that would transfer authority and jurisdiction of the Yigo Raceway Park to the Guam Department of Parks & Recreation. The discussion came up during their monthly meeting earlier today as commissioners asked executive director Alice Taijeron for her thoughts on Senator Dwayne San Nicolas's Bill 56.
"If Parks & Rec wants to run the Guam Racing Federation, then run it," Taijeron said. "But the land belongs to the CHamoru Land Trust Commission. The land belongs to the people, so you pay us the lease. You can lease it from us like anybody else. I hope that answers your question. I do not support the bill."
The Raceway Federation was given a 90-day extension after a cease and desist notice early-February caused public outcry. The extension allows the motorsport festival Smokin’ Wheels to continue at the drag strip in late-April.
There's no word yet on when the measure could be up for discussion in a public hearing.
