The Federated States of Micronesia Congress wants to maintain diplomatic relations with China, even after a scathing letter from outgoing FSM President David Panuelo urging them to pivot towards Taiwan.

A Congressional Resolution adopted by the 22nd FSM Congress says the One-China policy remains the official policy of the islands. They are calling on the president to make no changes to the diplomatic relations.

A press release by the body states, "the nation's diplomatic relations with the people's Republic of China is an example of its consistent policy which over time has only strengthened and become significantly beneficial to both sides."

They add that there is no compelling evidence of any negative impact of their relationship with China.

Panuelo has accused Chinese officials of bribing island politicians and spying on the islands.
