Lujan: Honolulu transit process streamlined

Traveling through Hawaii from Guam just got easier.

It comes thanks to the efforts from Republican Sen. Jesse Lujan who confirmed today that transit procedures for Guam passengers transiting through Honolulu have been modified.

Now the process is streamlined so those transiting through the aloha state to the U.S. mainland can simply hand over their check-in bags to a baggage transfer agent immediately after exiting the customs hall.

Connecting customers no longer have to clear agriculture inspection nor check in their bags at the United ticket counter as well.

“So it’s reverted to what it was before. I want to thank the governor of Hawaii and United Airlines and all the parties to be able to alleviate the hardship the Guam passengers had to endure going to points beyond Honolulu," Lujan said. "It just wasn’t acceptable with the type of passengers we have even those who are young traveling close to eight hours flight and they are starving and tired…It’s one step forward. This is a small step in some of the inequities the people of Guam had to endure. This is a win for Guam.”

So, now passengers can get off the flight from Guam in Honolulu, hand their luggage to a baggage transfer agent and go directly to the TSA checkpoint to enter the concourse for their connecting flight.
