Our island's education community was abuzz last night with the reveal of the GDOE Teacher of the Year Award. And you can bet that Upper Tumon was rockin' all day long today as the green-&-gold Islanders were extra-extra jazzed with their mentor, their leader, their guiding force through the world of all things exploratory and mechanical, was named winner of the prestigious honor.

Reigning Teacher of the Year Stephane Concepcion made the grand announcement during a special livestream, saying proudly, "The 2024 Guam State Teacher of the Year is Ms. Colette Beausoleil!" JFK's pride and joy STEM instructor, now 34 years on the job as a teacher, was humbled and thanks those who got her to this moment.

"I've been surrounded by these amazing individuals and learned so much from them. It's been humbling and a tremendous honor to work with these people," she said before a large entourage of friends, faculty, students and supporters. "My administrators were instrumental in seeing me through this. And certainly, all my students who have given me such a wonderful career. And tonight, two of my former students were up here with me, so that as really amazing. So thank you, everyone!"

Beausoleil also took home the People's Choice Award, with more than 1,700 supporters 'Liking' her profile on Facebook timeline last week.
