The CNMI hospital spared itself from power and water disconnection. Now, the CNMI Judiciary is at risk after the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation says it owes $2.4 Million in unpaid utility services.

The CUC is giving the court until May 18 to pay or it will be disconnected, including the courts on Tinian and Rota. CNMI Chief Justice Alexandro Castro and Presiding Judge Robert Naraja requesting a meeting with the CUC to discuss a solution.

However, the judiciary is disputing $1.6 million of those charges saying that they were incorrectly charged for water and wastewater/sewer services since July 2022. The judiciary also noting that the legislature does not appropriate enough funds to meet their obligations every year.

Now, they say could completely shut down operations for people on Tinian and Rota and cut services provided by the family court, drug court, and mental health court on Saipan if it is not resolved.
