Tropical Storm Mawar has strengthened.
A typhoon watch is in effect for Guam and the CNMI, while a tropical storm warning is in effect for Ulul and Polowat in
Chuuk State and Satawal in Yap State.
As of 5 am, the storm was located 515 miles south-southeast of Guam, and 580 miles south-southwest of Saipan.
The Guam National Weather service reports the storm continues to slowly organize and has slowed down some, with a current movement of north-northwest at 2 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course with an increase in forward speed over the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds remain at 40 mph, and Mawar is forecast to
intensify through tonight.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 30 miles.
